Crescent is a variety that has seen a lot of success over the years.
Recently, we have seen some need to control stripe rust in Crescent. As strains of stripe rust have evolved, we believe that Crescent’s initially strong showing against stripe rust in juvenile stages has eroded, although Crescent’s HTAP resistance seems to be staying strong. We believe that in a tough stripe rust year, Crescent may need to be sprayed. Still, Crescent’s yield potential is outstanding.
Mid-season maturity, awned, intermediate to tall height with good test weight, good yield potential and excellent winter hardiness. Resistance to stripe rust and strawbreaker foot rot. Lack of snow mold resistance. Excellent club wheat milling and baking characteristics. Adapted to low rainfall environments in Washington. Released 2011, UDSDA-ARS.
