Spring Barley
BG Katana is a six-rowed spring barley developed by WestBred, a unit of Monsanto. BG Katana was selected for slightly waxy, naked plump seed, along with agronomically favorable traits that include tillering, standability, and resistance to yellow rust. BG Katana was developed and advanced through the traditional pedigree breeding method. It has been tested, and shown, adaptation to the northern Palouse, the irrigated Columbia Basin, and the dryland Highway 2 corridor of Washington State and North Idaho. It has also shown good tolerance to yellow stripe rust in Eastern Washington that it’s predecessors have been susceptible to.
